Sitereportcard vs. SEO validator

My goal was to create a tool for on-site factor analysis. The sitereportcard tool is new for me and I have not heard about it until now. OK, it checks for links, but many backlink checkers are available... Even my own backlink checker. It returns pagerank, different C-Class IPs, finds edu, gov, ac.ak, mil links and could do more things, but I have 2 hands only :) . So in this comparison, sitereportcard is weaker.

Moreover, I checked azet.sk which is a portal in Slovakia. The tool returned load time 17.71 secs. Later it returned 11.21 sec. Weird. It loads in 3-4 secs for me in my browser.

Yeah, link popularity in Google can't be measured with that code (0mg.us/ -site:0mg.us/). This is completely wrong.

I see one positive thing there; it explains things. But again, it doesn't check for many on-site factors.

My tool is only couple of weeks old, but people found it already. The problem is that it is very new. BTW, my tool checks for many things but if they are fine, it will not report them (why should it?). It is a kind of validator so it says what's wrong only.

This is my opinion;).

CMS engine update

I updated my CMS engine running at sport-cars.org. The difference is now that it uses dynamic URLs serving the content through serve.php. Man could doubt that old URLs were SEO friendly, but they were not. Long URLs and deep folders structure are bad. 95% of SEOs won't agree with me, but I know what's going on. My aqua-fish.net is using index.php and show.php for approximately 99.5% of content serving and it has top positions for thousands of phrases.

Later I will update the CMS engine on my other sites as well...

That person says he's from USA, but his English is worse than mine! And I am from Slovakia.

The questions is: Allow forum spammers or ban them? However, that forum where I found the above-mentioned post doesn't allow a forum administrator to ban people! Weird? It is NOT!

The game is simple to understand. Man acts to be an SEO expert. Later he realises that he can't earn money with AdSense on his forum (which isn't his own -!- and he just downloaded it because he probably doesn't know any programming language) because forums are full of spammers and links builders so he starts a directory. Of course, paid one. No-one knows if generates any profit (reasonable profit of course), but he still acts as SEO guru.

And such person allow spammers to post stupid questions, stupid answers, etc.

You could ask what is the point of this post... It is simple.

If you are doing serious business, don't allow questionable human beings to spam or hurt it! One of my sites which is getting about 1500 visits each day would be spammed with low-quality messages. Do I allow it? I do NOT! Moreover I created a strong anti-spam filter which catches 100% of spam. Do I store and read those spam messages? I do NOT!

Spam and spammers are evil. Whatever you do on the internet, avoid spam.

Spam makes people disappointed. Who is interested in spam posts? I am NOT

Yesterday I installed my CMS engine here. That site will be devoted to home improvement including bathrooms, interior and exterior design. The writer is my cousin who works as home design consultant. Even though the current URL points to slovak version, the site will be available in english here.

Forums spammers

Many forums accept poor posts just because they would be nothing without them. Every webmaster should ask himself if it's good to publish senseless questions and topics, or if delete and ban such users. Why? Just because everyone who knows how to search Google can find answers to 99.5% newbies questions!

For instance, I just found words below on one "authority" forum...

I have placed an adsense in my blog and then a couple of days ago I visited my blogs and the adsense was totally deleted in my blogs!

Why is that happen?

I though it won't be deleted not if you have an access to it! but I am the only one who know the password and username of that blog.

Answer? This is very poor attempt and it is completely spam. If that person's account was not terminated by Google and his password wasn't stolen, then ads MUST appear on his blog.

Querying Google too many times

Be aware of sending too many queries to Google in a short time period. Even if you are using broswer for positions check, you may be banned from querying Google for some time. Unfortunately, Google's solution isn't wise in such case.

So what is the solution? Open a new browser (not a new browser window, but new application) such as Opera when you are banned in Firefox. Or use Konqueror, Epiphany, or SeaMonkey.

PageRank update

It is about Google update these days. My Aquarium fish database gets PR5 (PR4 previously). This blog stays at PR2, since I'm not doing any link building for it. What's good, is that my SEO site will get PR3 instead of PR1. Actually, Google Toolbar shows PR0 for it now, but it's the result of update. Many sites/pages have PR0 now, since PageRank update is very complex and lasts some time.

I also spoke to very nice webmaster of a site devoted to roofing yesterday. He's focusing on roofing, and roof contractor phrases. He has done a lot of SEO for his site, however his PageRank will go down by 1 (from PR5 to PR4). This is very "crazy", since number of incoming links to his site increased by 133. Sometimes, it's better to have lots of links than huge PR. Basically, high PR can be bought easily. Usually, tons of links can't be bought and must be done manually.

I got pissed off this morning when I found one poor web site showing my article as their comment. So I decided to create the blacklist section at services-seo.net for this purpose.

I understand if anyone publishes a part of my article with a link back and a notification like "This article can be found at ... since it is it's original location and we used some part of it." But I hate if anyone uses my content the way it shouldn't be.

At services-seo.net/articles/blacklist/duplicate-content-web-sites.php you can find that site. I will list more sites there, since my directory is getting submissions each day and to be honest, I have to reject the major part of those webpages, since they are of very poor quality. Naturally, I will not list only duplicate content pages there. Hidden text, hidden links, "affiliate" pages too. But not only those kinds.

If you know any webpage which breaks the copyright and it's easy to determine if, contact me and I will list such URLs there.

Directories; A way to success

Link building is usually a very boring and tedious method of SEO. I described link building in the previous article, but there are some other things which I need to say.

Links are about 50% of success. Depending on an algorithm of every search engine, this number might vary from 20% to 80%. Anyway, it is strongly recommended to create a very complex links background for a site if you want it to rank well no matter if an exact algorithm changes or not.

Generally, Google cares about links too much. Firstly, it is very good if you want to do link based SEO. On the other hand, just imagine somebody with 100 well established and old sites. Then this webmaster just needs to place a link to his new website when he starts it and it will get high ranking in Google. Similarly, consider a corporation with 1000+ old sites. But not only big companies have this opportunity. Blogs are still very useful for this SEO stuff.

OK, to quickly go through the basic recommendations for a quality link building. Before you start, do a complex keyword research. This will help you not only for an on-site SEO, but for off-site SEO too. Why? It probably started in Google...Search engines follow regular links and they consider that a text pointing to an external website is an important one. This is the main factor, so carefully choose a good link name. Then you only need to submit your site to as many directories as you can find.

The second important thing is to choose good directories only. Of course, you don't know the future and you don't know if some chosen directory will rank better or worse in the future. That's a minus, but don't believe in any lie saying your site will be heavily penalised if it is linked from any penalised site by any search engine. Of course, it won't help your site if it is linked from a penalised site, but on the other hand, any site can be penalised in any search engine. Generally, more links = more popularity of your site.

Rules for this kind of SEO:

1) Find as many links opportunities as you can
2) Use free submission and pay only if you need to pay. Don't pay just for fun. Yahoo directory is a good decision. Any paid directory with few outgoing
links, low pagerank and a short history isn't good decision.
3) Use 2-word phrases as the name of your site mostly. Sometimes use 3-word phrases. You will avoid getting a penalty when using different names for links pointing to your site.

Link building

Generally, link building is very important for quality SEO work. It is needed especially in circumstances when you compete for better positions for a very popular phrase or keyword. Firstly, you have to analyse your competitors. Usually
there are many links pointing to sites which are ranked in the top10 for one-word phrases (or keywords). You should use some SEO software for links analysis, so you will get a complete report about sites linking to your competitors. In the first phase, focus on getting to the top10, not top5 or top3. So check sites linking to a site which occupies 10-th position in Google, MSN, Yahoo or Overture and visit each of these sites manually. List the pages where they store links and ask them for a link exchange.

Well, I've tried this strategy and the results were different from my expectations. I calculated to have about 100 incoming links instead of only 20-30 actual links that I subsequently discovered. This fact is caused by the following reasons

1) My site was very new and people didn't want to add a link to it.
2) Many webmasters didn't reply on my emails or their email accounts has been already deleted, so their sites were released years ago and they gave them up. Unfortunately, their free hostings probably won't expire ever.

Anyway, 20 new links aren't bad at all. However, it won't boost anyone's rankings to the top10 for chosen keywords. It's something like a rule that Google's top positions for any one-word keyword are occupied with sites with 500+ incoming links.

So what do you have to do next? Simply focus on directories. This won't result in a failure as it is the easiest way to get links. With a good list of directories, you could manage about 100+ new incoming links to your site. Don't ask yourself about Google only, because listings in directories will help you in all search engines. You will notice incoming links from a few hours after submission up to few months since this action. Don't ask yourself about their pagerank values as they may raise. Many webmasters are buying links scripts for a few bucks and their sites naturally have pagerank of 0.

It seems to be a very easy way to get links and it is really a significant part of good SEO. Like everywhere, there are few rules which you should follow in order to get the maximum from this SEO strategy:

1) Don't buy links. It is really the fastest and the easiest way, but it is not the recommended one. Search engines, especially Google, can find paid links (just imagine the text above a link „Featured listings“ and imagine how easy can search engine cut links below this text) and it won't help you at all.
2) Don't put backlinks to any of directory on your pages. This might look little bit unfair, but imagine 200 directories where you're listed in and imagine 200 links on your "links page“. It is not only good for a visitor, but
your site might be taken as a link farm and it would get penalized.

Google sitemaps; How accurate is it?

Google offers any webmaster registration at the Google Sitemaps program for free. When I heard of it, I was very surprised and I immediately created my account awaiting great reports and accurate information. Let's go through it step by step.

Google says "Improve the visibility of your URLs on Google. Google Sitemaps is an easy way for you to submit all your URLs to the Google index and get detailed reports about the visibility of your pages on Google."

1) So I created 5 sitemaps of my site. Each of these sitemaps has about 500 KB. Google picked them up and I waited for some results. At the same time, I installed a referral script on my site, so I've been able to track where visitors came to my site from.
2) I soon noticed some visitors from Google, so I was expecting similar results on my Google Sitemaps account.
3) My first disappointment was about a delay between updates in the Google Sitemaps program. I've had to wait for 2 weeks to see what happened 2-4 weeks ago! But Google is very complex, so I thought it was acceptable.
4) My second disappointment related to the Google Sitemaps accuracy. I've not seen some of the queries which people used in order to visit my site from Google. Again, I thought that Google Sitemaps is a very complex program, so a little slackness can't be anything notable.
5) My third, and last, disappointment is with regard to the fatal Google Sitemaps inaccuracy. Google says that my aquarium database is getting visitors from term "fish" and my average position is 4-th! Another surprise is that my site is getting visitors from term "fish net" By the way, I have had some visitors from term "freshwater aquarium fish" but Google Sitemaps didn't notice. It's crazy.

My conclusion: Don't trust the Google Sitemaps program, because it proved to be very weak and inaccurate. Sitemaps mania with submitting XML sitemaps to this program is something you should avoid. On the other hand, you have nothing to lose.

By the way...Even my sitemaps contain about 5000 different URLs, Google Sitemaps haven't added them into the Google index, but they are crawled on a daily basis. And the last note...Even Google crawls my site about thousand times a day, the number of indexed pages of my site decreased from 400 to 12. But this is probably caused by the Google update.

Get listed in Google

Generally, there are three ways how to get listed in Google. Firstly, don't submit your site directly to Google, since it will get into the Google SandBox. I made this mistake some time ago and it took 3 months before my site was finally listed in Google. My latest customer released his sport-cars.org site 1 month ago and he has already been listed in Google for 2 weeks! Of course, his site has PageRank 0 and only the main page is present in the Google index but, on the next Google update, more pages will be listed there since the entire site is linked correctly and is w3c valid.

So quickly...How did I manage to get his site listed in Google so soon? It's simple, I've established some good links. Really only a few links! Why are links so important? Let me explain with the following example:

1) Site B links to site A
2) Site C links to site A
3) Site D links to site A

For simplicity, consider that no link relation exists between sites B, C, D. Also site A doesn't link to any of B, C, D sites. Search engines will analyse these links and site A will be the most popular out of these 4 sites. Now, consider 1000 sites and links instead of 4. Also consider a very complex 'links net'. So if you want a new link in order to get higher link popularity in Google, just search for good links partners and ask them for a link to your site.

But how to find good a link partner? The links below are probably a guaranteed way of how to get listed in Google in a very short time. I've spent a lot of time finding these sites and directories, so it will probably save you time.

Please note, that getting listed on each of sites above was free of cost when I used them. But it doesn't mean they're free now. You should establish more than 9 links, but the sites above means getting listed in Google.

Keyword cloud

Search engine optimisation consists of a few steps, which include many techniques. One of these techniques is called 'Keyword cloud'. Search engines usually give a penalty to sites which use a keyword too much and they're ranking well sites with natural looking content. A site which is optimised for search engines can look natural but still fit search engine optimisation requirements. You probably won't get top rankings for one word and that's why you should focus on the 'Keyword cloud' technique.

Firstly, you have to understand what's going on with this search engine optimisation method. Consider a webpage with some content. When you divide words and you count their percentage of occurrence, you will get a graph. Now, you need to compare each word with that one which has the highest percentage of occurrence. Ideally, the most important keywords would have similar percentage. Then you will get a list of the most important keywords for your page as well as a list of the most relevant phrases for your page.

In order to do quality search engine optimisation, it is important to place your keywords to the beginning of your page(s). I will explain it to you on the following screenshot. You can see how bmw.com is optimised. Please note that bmw.com has many incoming links, so on-site optimisation isn't the most important part, however, I'd do some things differently.

Article directories, blogs or websites? A lot of people say that you should post articles to article directories and you'll get a lot of links pointing to your site. But is this really what you need for your site? Is this SEO?

Publishing in article directories might be little bit frustrating, because once you submit your article, you need to wait about 1 month until your article is reviewed and published. Usually, there are a few sites which pump articles from that article directory, so you would get from 1 to 10-100 incoming links. That's great at first sight, isn't it? But you should note that Google usually doesn't consider links from pages with the same content as natural links, so it doesn't count at all. It's simple. I've posted one article originally published on my aquarium database site just to see how it all works. I can tell you that I haven't noticed any extra traffic, any extra link popularity, or anything much. What are article directories all about? It's very clear; they're getting content for nothing and they're using Google Adsense or other advertisements, so they're earning money from your content! You can analyse the source code of any article published at any serious article directory and you'll see how optimised it is.

Posting your articles to blogs. That is little bit better than above, but you should be the owner of the blog you're sending any content to. Of course, if a person who owns a blog is your friend or relative, you can help too. Usually, people place advertisements on their blogs, so they're getting a content and then they're earning money, because search engines generally rank them well. For example, a blog with 20 contributors can easily earn $100 each day if its content is optimised and added on a daily basis. If you have some friends who would be able to post their comments on some topic each day, just establish your blog for free and start posting. It's very simple.

Posting your articles to your own website. This is the best way how to attract visitors to your site without leaving your content on other sites. This is also the best way to earn money, because you can use Google Adsense to show relevant ads on your site (each article can be dedicated to one theme not depending on other articles). Don't forget to optimise your articles for SEO purposes.

Google – the most used search engine. And probably the most complex one. It's complex structure of updates makes SEO on Google very unpredictable. There are a lot of SEO tools for checking Google databases, PageRank prediction tools and such things. I use these tools, but I not make any decisions based on the results they give to me. Firstly, you have to understand how Google works. There are a lot of Google datacentres and they're collecting data about crawled websites. Once you make any SEO change to your website, Googlebot can identify it as important one, but this fact may not result in better rankings for your website. That's because all data is stored on these servers until they're finally sent to the main server (or server center) and only in this case your site gets better or worse ranking. To make SEO work on Google more difficult, Google doesn't collect retrieved data on any monthly/weekly basis. Sometimes, your SEO changes to any site can result in better rankings within 1 week and sometimes you will need to wait more than 1 month to see the result. Accessing Google datacentres was a very powerful tool some time ago, but I think it's not anymore. This is for the simple reason that there are a lot of Google servers and you never know which database is being used. Of course, you can find which database is currently used, but it will take some time to find it out. Anyway, it will change sooner or later, so you will have to find it again.

The same goes to predicting the PageRank. A while ago I used one perfect SEO tool for predicting Google PageRank. It was very accurate because only this one tool predicted the PageRank of 4 for my new site (every other PageRank prediciton tool predicted 0 PageRank) and few weeks later, my site really got PageRank of 4. But some changes on the Google servers led to a malfunction of this free service and it doesn't work anymore.

On the other hand, you can predict Google results a little bit. Usually, what is good for Yahoo, MSN, Alexa and Overture, is good for Google too. That's why I recommend everyone focus on MSN and Yahoo. Using techniques like keyword cloud and keyword density, HTML SEO, you can improve your Google rankings. You should focus on the long term based SEO on Google and you should be prepared for hard work if you decide to get good positions in the Google SERP.

Tip on SEO is usually taken as some on-site search engine optimisation (SEO). You should have your site's structure optimised for search engines, but you should also know something about off-site factors. Most people say that SEO's off-site factor is links. That's not true and my first off-site SEO tip is to choose a good domain name. You'll find many sites with a keyword or phrase, which you're focusing on, in their domain's name. These sites did well when choosing a domain name since it is about 12% of good SEO. Don't make mistakes and find another suitable domain name in order to get as much as possible from SEO. For example, when you're working on an SEO site and you're writing an article about some SEO tip, make sure your domain contains words like 'SEO'. If there is no free SEO domain, buy another one which should contain another competitive keyword. For example, buy a domain with terms 'SEO' and 'tip' divided by a hyphen.

The second SEO tip is about domain expiration. Search engines rate sites well which expire in the far future than sites which will expire within 1 year. That's true and you can check all top 10 sites in Google for most keywords. Domains don't cost much and you will spend only few bucks on it. So buy it for 5 or 10 years and search engines will consider your site as a serious business.

The third SEO tip goes to your domain's age. The older, the better. You should search Google for some serious phrases and you will see that the top10 sites are usually these, which are older than 10 years. Because of this fact, it is sometimes better to take over some domain even it doesn't contain any important content and even its owner asks much more money than a new domain is available for. It's simple. In the beginning of my SEO work, I was wondering why my site wasn't getting top10 positions. It was fully optimised for on-site factors, but its age was only few weeks. After 6 months, it is now getting good positions for very competitive phrases without changing it's on-site optimisation.

Many people use some SEO software. This is the first thing which most webmasters use and they're hoping for good positions without any deep knowledge of SEO. So at first, it is up to you to read some reviews on the SEO software which you've decided to go for. You also should read negative feedback or reviews on any SEO software, because those positive reviews are mostly written by programmers and their affiliates. I'm using WEBCEO SEO software. Let me explain my hopes and experiences with this SEO software.

1) When I first heard about SEO and some SEO software, I was very surprised that there is some automated software which will help me with my SEO effort. So I've read some good reviews on this software I decided to use it. It was a good choice, even it didn't mean success. Why? Just read following...

2) I optimised my sites and the sites of my customers under the recommendations of this SEO software and I was awaiting top10 positions on MSN, Google and Yahoo within few weeks. But it didn't happen. During those weeks, I'd been monitoring the positions of my sites and I'd been learning more about SEO and SEO software. I've read more than 1 review on SEO software which I've been using and I've also read more reviews on other programs which should help people with their SEO efforts.

3) When I've learned more about SEO techniques than these programs offer and explain, I've used them on all of my sites.

After 6 months of heavy SEO on my sites, they became known worldwide and they became visited many times on a regular basis. I'm not using WEBCEO SEO software for improving my SEO stuff anymore, but I'm using it for tracking my positions on search engines. That's why I wrote this review on SEO software. I just want to tell everyone that SEO isn't about doing exactly what some program recommends. You should use WEBCEO for analysing sites, you should use it, because it's free SEO software. You can even buy it, because it is really good tool, but you should also improve your SEO skills and you shouldn't depend on any software. Because the human brain does more than any SEO software does and knowledge and experience aren't things that can be replaced so easily.

Of course, I've tried few other SEO software products, but they weren't good enough. Unlike WEBCEO, they don't use Google API key and such things, which make optimising very risky. Just imagine if Google finds out that you're using illegal techniques, because these illegal techniques are considered as automated querying Google without any API key and so on. You should read at least one negative review on the SEO software which you're going to use, because it could save your business.

SEO and page content

On-site factors are very important in SEO. Just imagine how a search engine reads the content of your page. There are some words divided by a space from each other. For complete SEO, you should give more than content to any search engine. Since many webmasters try to use keywords and phrases on their sites heavily not depending on their real relevance and importance, search engines started to analyse more on-site factors.

Step 1: Find a good phrase for every page on your site. This SEO technique will bring more visitors to your site than you can ever imagine. Of course, this phrase or keyword should be used in search queries.

Step 2: Use the chosen keyword or phrase in the site title. This means it should be used inside the title tag. Don't put too many keywords into the title tag because it will lower the importance of every word that it contains. Optimising the title tag should be the second thing that you do when you're doing serious SEO.

Step 3: Optimise your meta tags. Meta tags are meta keywords and meta description tags. In the past, search results depended on these tags very heavily. One day, webmasters found it out and they started to put too many words and phrases into the meta tags of their websites. But good SEO also includes optimising meta tags since they're usually displayed below your site in the SERP as its description.

Step 4: Put your title tag content into the h1 heading. You wouldn't believe it, but good and optimised h1 tag may result in getting 300 positions! Anyway, don't put the whole site into this tag as it is important to place only 2-3 important keywords inside of it. That is the fourth on-site SEO step. Let's talk about more search engine optimisation.

Step 5: Find any important phrase that will help your SEO effort and put it into the h2 tag. But choose it wisely. It should be relevant to a keyword or phrase which you've already chosen for the h1 tag. Most commonly, it means that at least 1 word in the h1 tag should be used in the h2 tag also. The H2 tag is also very important for SEO since it gives opportunities for more than 1 phrase or keyword.

Step 6: Put the chosen keywords or phrases inside bold text tags. Bold keywords usually means about 5% of all SEO optimisation. You should bear in mind that every keyword can be bold and usually more means better.

Step 7: Make sure that your keyword is present in the first 20 words of your page and also in the last 15 words of your page content. That's very important since it is interpreted as a theme based webpage if these requirements are satisfied. But it doesn't mean that SEO is about placing your keywords everywhere it's possible to do so. SEO means a very clear way how to make the chosen content important without making site very crazy and strange looking.

Step 8: SEO also means quality sentences as well as keyword presence in these sentences. Firstly, you should use your keyword in the first paragraph of your site as well as somewhere in the beginning of all sentences. Don't use the chosen keyword too much, because it may be considered as spamming. Generally, use your keywords once per 2 sentences or once per 50 words.

Step 9: Monitor and save your SEO updates. Always make back-up copies, because you never know when your SEO is good or bad. As time goes by, you will find which techniques are good and which aren't good enough for SEO.

SEO on dynamic websites

When you start with SEO, you find out that many search engines can't crawl dynamically generated pages. But what is a dynamically generated page and how is it related to SEO? Most websites use PHP and, since it allows a webmaster to create a dynamic site, many people decide on this solution as it gives an opportunity to add forums, photo albums, registration, and other stuff. So when you develop a site with dynamic access, you mostly send variables via cookies or a URL. That's a good solution for a programmer, but it isn't a good solution for SEO purposes. For example, Google can crawl dynamically generated pages if only they store a regular string in it's URL. If you use a space (no matter if it's encoded by htmlspecialschars() function), Googlebot will probably crash on it. My own experiences say that it's better to use short names of variables and use only numbers and regular strings which contain characters like a, b, c, .., x and 0, 1, 2, .., 9.

So how to create a page that uses dynamic content and how to optimise it for search engines? Use static a looking site that generates dynamically. I developed this kind of website a few days ago and it stores all content in static pages with php extensions, but these files store only some information about database tables and records where to pump data from. It's a simple idea, but it's harder to create a similar website engine.

Search engine optimisation means allowing a search engine to get all content from your website, because you have to show its content to any visitor and to any search engine the same way. For example, MSN access only these URLs with variables in it, which are accessible from a static URL. When the most important content of your site is visible to the major search engines, you've won.

6 simple steps to optimise your website.

Probably every webmaster wants his sites to rank well. After months of hard work on a site engine, it's layout and design, you will anticipate a huge amount of traffic, but it usually doesn't happen. Why? There are a few simple reasons, so let me write something about them and let me show you how to get your site ranked well without spending a lot of money and time on it.

Your site is new and it doesn't have any incoming link pointing to it. The easiest way to get few inbound links is to ask webmasters of similar websites for a link. You don't need to check if that site has a good PageRank or not, because every link is a good link and the only thing you should check is if that site is indexed by Google, MSN and Yahoo.

Your site must contain some content. More content means better starting positions. Don't focus on very competitive keywords or phrases, because SEO isn't only about getting your site ranked well for some chosen phrases. SEO is about understanding what search engines are looking for, so you should keep your content stable and dedicated to one theme. If your site is about cars, don't put any article about viagra there and so on. Of course, you won't get top positions for very competitive phrases in the beginning, so you should to write and write content. Quality content means satisfaction for visitors to your website. Once people explore your site via SERP (search engine results page) and they find your site relevant and good enough, they will send emails and messages to their friends about this new website and you'll get traffic no matter which positions in SERP belong to your site.

Your site contains content and it has incoming links too, but it isn't indexed by Google, Yahoo, or MSN. This fact has a simple reason. It always takes a few weeks or months to get your site indexed. My experiences with these three major search engines result say that MSN is probably the best one for SEO and for new websites. Unlike Google, it really shows your site after it has been indexed and its positions rely on its content. MSN is probably the best one search engine these days. Google doesn't show the newest content due to a delay between the time when a new page is indexed and the time when this page is shown in the SERP. That's amazing, because people usually like to find new content and Google doesn't show the latest content. That's very frustrating especially when people search for new technologies and they simply can't find anything about it. That's why many internet users have already switched to MSN and other search engines.

Once your site is indexed, gets some PageRank in Google, it is crawled by robots from time to time depending on its importance. Most often, more links equal more importance. But don't buy links only for SEO stuff. You should get free links from sites with pr5 or above only when you explore them. The best way to find sites where you should link from is to use some free backlinks checker tool. Then you only need to contact webmasters of the sites that link to your competitors and ask them for a little favour. Of course, there are directories too and you should bear in mind that listing in DMOZ, Yahoo directory and wikipedia are highly recommended solutions of how to get quality links. Generally, when you send requests to n webmasters, you will get about n/3 or n/5 links. But if you analyse your 10 competitors, you can get the same number of links as they already have! It is simple and it doesn't cost anything.

You must add new content to your website. I have created the randomizing function of the content on my www.aqua-fish.net and Google started to visit my site hundred times daily! Once Google visits your site daily on a regular basis, your new content is being added to its databases and index faster which usually takes about 2 weeks.

Professional SEO

In December of 2005 I was asked to do SEO for a customer who owns his online store parked at Yahoo. This was the first time that I worked as an SEO consultant. My work was to find suitable keywords or phrases, analyse competitors, and to optimise the whole site, especially the main page, for SEO purposes. When I did a keywords analysis with an unnamed software, I decided to go for phrases shade canopy and shade canopies. Of course, these phrases aren't the most competitive, but they are quite relevant to the theme of my customer's site. My goal was to get that site ranked well in MSN, Yahoo and Google. MSN and Yahoo are more content orientated than Google but good rankings in Google are usually natural when a site ranks well in other search engines.

After a heavy effort and hours of work, my first optimisation led to good rankings for the keyword "canopies" and the phrase "shade canopies". Fortunately, there is a relation between word "canopies" and "canopy" as the first one is the plural of the second one.

After 4 months, my SEO skills became professional and my customer was altogether satisfied with my SEO consultancy. Our project isn't finished yet, but his site has got more visitors and pageviews than anytime before. Naturally, he has also got more sales and his revenue from this site doubled.

You can see how SEO improvements has managed better rankings for the phrase "shade-canopies".
